ユニークな生物が多いことで知られる古生代だが、さらに3000万年前にさかのぼった時代に存在していたと考えられる葉状の生物の化石はかなりのレア物だ。
Paleozoic is known for its many unique creatures, but fossils of leafy living things that are thought to existed in the days that dates back more than 30 million years ago are quite rare.
そもそもこれは果たして菌類なのか、それとも藻類、または原生動物なのかと、その正体について長年にわたり議論されてきた。最近になりこの化石は少なくとも5億7100万年前のものであること、そして地球最古の動物のひとつである可能性が示唆されている。
In the first place it has been argued over many years about its identity whether it is fungi or algae or protozoan. It has recently been suggested that this fossil is at least 571 million years old and that it may be one of the oldest animals on earth.
